Solution Provides Safety Net for Patient Record System for Healthcare Network

Healthcare seems to be at the forefront of the news – and our thoughts – frequently these days. The security of medical records, while still making them safely accessible as needed, is of paramount importance. Transaction Innovation Corporation (TIC) strives to keep abreast of current requirements in this, and other IT areas, and bring to bear the latest technology has to offer to help the company’s clients, such as Park Nicollet, profiled here.

Phil Kloot is the manager of Tandem (HP NonStop) technical services for Park Nicollet, a large healthcare provider in the Minneapolis, MN area. Phil has been managing the medical record data for the hospital and its two dozen affiliated clinics for the past five and a half years.

Park Nicollet was already a TIC customer when Phil arrived, as they were using TIC’s TeleWeb offering integrated with their Last Word electronic health care record system. TeleWeb enables the medical and administrative staff to view reports based upon data stored in the mainframe via Web browser, for increased security, decreased use of paper and overall ease-of-use and secure data access.

The latest challenge TIC helped Park Nicollet address was the need to comply with disaster recovery protocols and data redundancy/recovery assurance for his healthcare provider network. “Park Nicollet has always been at the forefront of IT implementation,” Phil explained. “We were looking to integrate a patients’ records safety net, and so turned to TIC for assistance.”

Park Nicollet installed TIC’s Downtime Reports (DTR) solution to address its data recovery and reporting needs. During off-hour periods of mainframe system testing, maintenance and upgrades, the technical services team still needed to provide patient record access to hospital staff. Prior to the TIC solution, they would have to print reports on all current hospital patients as a backup. Now, with the implementation of DTR, PDF files of patient records are available to all nursing workstations during times of any ongoing server maintenance, greatly enhancing secure access to information, as well as doing away with the need for paper reports that need to be shredded after use.

“The TIC solution we implemented helped us meet both regulatory requirements as well as clinician concerns, stated Phil. “This provides us a huge safety net for patient records – backup and access – in case of any server issues.”

“We have made every effort in the healthcare vertical, from both our company and technological evolution, to provide our customers with the solutions they need for secure data handling and access,” explained Phil Ly, President of Transaction Innovation Corporation. “For over two decades, TIC has helped Tandem/HP NonStop customers ‘modernize’ their systems with the newest IT offerings.”

“We have found TIC’s offerings to be very reliable,” Phil said. “I can’t recall a single time we had to contact them for service or support – a true ‘set and forget’ integration. From a customer standpoint, this is exactly the relationship you strive for from a vendor – an easy, straightforward implementation that meets your needs.”
